Why Lyon rather than Geneva
For the Tarentaise and the Oisans, Lyon is often quicker than Geneva despite the extra distance: motorway covers most of the route, while the drive from Geneva crosses the Genevois countryside and the A40 first. In February, when Geneva fares climb, the comparison is worth making before you book the flight rather than after.
What Lyon serves best
- The Oisans: Alpe d’Huez 2 h 10, Les Deux Alpes 2 h 15.
- The Three Valleys: Méribel 2 h 15, Courchevel 2 h 20, Val Thorens 2 h 35.
- The Tarentaise: La Plagne and Les Arcs, about 2 h 35.
- The Haute-Tarentaise: Val d’Isère, about 3 h.
- The Chablais and Mont Blanc, further out: Morzine and Chamonix, around 2 h 30.
Arriving at Saint-Exupéry
The two terminals share one arrivals area, where your driver waits with your name. The airport also has its own TGV station, useful if part of your party is coming from Paris by train.

Help
Frequently asked questions — Lyon
Is Lyon further from the resorts than Geneva?
In kilometres, often yes; in time, not always. For the Tarentaise and the Oisans the motorway makes Lyon competitive, and its flights run all year.
How long to Alpe d’Huez?
About 2 h 10 for 155 km, including the 21 hairpins climbing from Le Bourg-d’Oisans.
Are there midweek flights?
Yes, all year and to many destinations — that is Lyon’s main advantage over Chambéry and Grenoble.
